Golf in Turkey is now recognised internationally and the country viewed as a destination where players from around the world can meet in prestigious facilities and enjoy spectacular surroundings. Golf in Turkey is popular, the excellent climate is an attraction, with the added benefits of high standards of service, good value for money, and of course, a fantastic range of championship golf courses.
Turkey was awarded ‘Best Golf Destination in Europe 2008´ by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) putting Turkey ahead of other European golfing hotspots including Spain and Scotland. Above all, the resort of Belek, on the Mediterranean coast just 40km east of Antalya, is at the heart of golf in Turkey. The first golf course opened in 1994, since then Belek has established itself on the international golf circuit with top courses that include those designed by world famous golfers Colin Montgomerie and Nick Faldo. The area also has Turkey´s first pure links course – Lykia Links Golf. All the courses are set in natural areas with the snow-capped Taurus Mountains as a backdrop. Today there are 14 golf courses in Antalya and There are also golf courses situated outside Istanbul, just 65 km from city centre at the Silivri region. Also in the Mugla region at Bodrum and Dalaman there are 2 more new golf courses opened year 2008.there are more then 100 golf courses under construction in different region of Turkey.
Turkey organizing more then 70 national and international tournament every year and there are 5000 Licensed Golf Players in Turkey.
This is why the, 2012 World Amateur Team Championships will be organized in Turkey.
